How can I check that nothing is uploaded?
Your files are processed in this browser tab. This page has no function that sends files to a server, and its security rules (Content Security Policy) forbid connections to other servers.
Check it yourself: load this page, then switch on flight mode or disconnect Wi-Fi and run the tool. It still works – because everything happens on your device.

How it works – step by step
Choose a PDF
Existing bookmarks are shown and can be edited right away.
Add bookmarks
Go to the page and enter a title – or create them from the headings. Use the arrows to sort and nest them.
Save
You get the PDF with the new bookmarks. They show up in the side bar of every PDF reader.

Where do I see the bookmarks?
In the side bar of your PDF reader, often called “Bookmarks” or “Outline”. One click jumps to the page.
What happens to existing bookmarks?
They are loaded and shown. When you save, the list is written exactly as you see it here.
Does automatic creation work with every PDF?
Only if the headings are larger or bolder than the text. For scans without text, run “OCR PDF” first or create one per page.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser; after the first visit the page also works offline.
