Convert ENEX to Markdown

Take your notes with you: choose an ENEX export, get Markdown files with all images and attachments.

How can I check that nothing is uploaded?

Your files are processed in this browser tab. This page has no function that sends files to a server, and its security rules (Content Security Policy) forbid connections to other servers.

Check it yourself: load this page, then switch on flight mode or disconnect Wi-Fi and run the tool. It still works – because everything happens on your device.

Good to know

How it works – step by step
  1. Export your notes

In your current note app, export a notebook or all notes as an ENEX file (.enex).

  2. Choose ENEX files

Choose one or more ENEX files – each becomes its own folder.

  3. Save the ZIP

You get a ZIP with one Markdown file per note, images and attachments next to them and a table of contents.

Why FaLe?
  • Open format

Markdown is plain text with a few characters for headings and lists – readable in any editor and many note apps, still in twenty years.

  • Nothing gets lost

Headings, lists, checklists, tables, links, images and attachments are kept. Created and modified dates and tags are at the top of each note.

  • No upload

Your notes are converted in the browser and never uploaded – even large exports with many images.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get an ENEX file?

In common note apps via a notebook’s menu: choose “Export” and the ENEX format. Many apps can also export all notes at once.

Which app can open the Markdown files?

Any text editor – and note apps that support Markdown. Images are in the “Attachments” folder and linked from the notes.

What happens to encrypted text?

Text encrypted with its own password in the original app cannot be decrypted here. A note marks the spot.

Are my notes uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser; after the first visit the page also works offline.
