Image to text

Take a photo of some text or a screenshot – OCR turns it into text you can copy. Everything stays on your device.

How can I check that nothing is uploaded?

Your files are processed in this browser tab. This page has no function that sends files to a server, and its security rules (Content Security Policy) forbid connections to other servers.

Check it yourself: load this page, then switch on flight mode or disconnect Wi-Fi and run the tool. It still works – because everything happens on your device.

Good to know

How it works – step by step
  1. Choose image

Pick one or more photos, screenshots or scans – or take a photo of the text with your phone.

  2. Mark the area

If you only need part of it, drag a frame over it. Choose English, German or both.

  3. Copy the text

The recognised text appears for editing. Copy it with one tap or save it as TXT.

Why FaLe?
  • No upload

Text recognition runs in your browser. Photos of letters, IDs or notes never leave your device.

  • Just what you need

With the frame you read a specific area, such as an address or an account number – which is also more accurate.

  • Many images at once

Pick several images and get all the text in one go – with each file name as a heading.

  • Offline afterwards

The recognition data is downloaded once the first time. After that it also works without internet.

Frequently asked questions
Which images can I use?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF. HEIC photos work if your browser can open them (e.g. Safari).

Is handwriting recognised?

Only to a very limited extent. Recognition is made for printed text – screens, books, letters, signs.

How do I get better results?

Use a sharp, well-lit photo in which the text is straight and large enough. Mark only the area you need.

Which languages work?

English and German, also mixed.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The images are processed only in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
