Application for the position of Room attendant (full time)

Dear Ms Novak,

fourteen rooms a shift, each one as if the general manager were checking in: that is how I was trained, and how I have worked for five years. I notice a hair in the basin or a loose curtain rail before the guest does.

I know the routines with laundry, minibars and lost property, report faults to maintenance and train new colleagues. I would like to work in a smaller hotel where people know each other.

Yours sincerely,

Ivana Maric

Application for the position of Head housekeeper

Dear Mr Kettlewell,

for three years I have deputised for our head housekeeper, responsible for twelve staff across four floors. Rotas, room checks, linen orders and coordinating with reception are all part of it.

I would now like to run a department myself. A leisure hotel where departures and arrivals pile up on a Saturday is a new challenge, and peak days like that are exactly what I enjoy organising.

Yours sincerely,

Agnes Wrobel

Good to know

Your application in three steps
  1. Add your own photo – or none

The example uses an illustrated placeholder. Replace it under “Choose photo” in the editor, or remove it: in the UK, US and many other countries a CV photo is not expected.

  2. Replace the details

Name, contact, jobs, skills: everything is filled in and can be overwritten field by field.

  3. Save as PDF

The PDF is created in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, no account needed.

What employers look for

Room attendants clean rooms, change beds, restock minibars and report faults, often against the clock between check-out and check-in. Hotels look for people who are thorough and fast, discreet with guests’ belongings and good team players.

  • Thoroughness and speed

  • Discretion

  • Physical stamina

  • Teamwork on the floor

  • Weekend and holiday shifts

Tips for your application

Do

  • Say how many rooms you do per shift.
  • Show discretion with an example.
  • List your languages.

Don’t

  • Describe yourself as “just a cleaner”.
  • Tell lost-property stories with names.
  • Rule out weekends.
Typical interview questions

Prepare a short, honest example from your own work for each one.

  1. How many rooms can you do in a shift?
  2. What do you do if you find valuables?
  3. How do you handle a complaint?
  4. What do you check before releasing a room?

Salary expectations

If the advert asks for your salary expectations, give an annual gross figure or a range you have researched – through pay scales, salary surveys from public sources or people who do the job. If it does not ask, leave pay out of the letter; it will come up in the interview.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a qualification?

No. Most hotels train you. For head housekeeper roles, experience counts more than certificates.

Should I put a photo on my CV?

It depends on the country. In the UK, Ireland and the US a photo is usually left out to avoid bias, and many employers prefer CVs without one. In Germany and some other countries it is common but optional. If you use one: recent, friendly, plain background, dressed as you would be on a good day at work.

Can I copy the example letters?

Yes, they are free to use. But recruiters read a lot of letters – one with your own examples, numbers and a real reason for choosing this employer will always do better. Use the examples as scaffolding and write the sentences yourself.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The CV and the letter are created in your browser. Nothing is stored unless you switch on “Save the draft” in the editor – and then only on your device.
