Application for the position of Goods-in team leader

Dear Ms Walker,

Around thirty trucks arrive in our goods-in area every shift, and I make sure every pallet is booked correctly and put in the right location. I have done this for five years with an error rate I am quite proud of.

I check deliveries against orders, inspect use-by dates and temperatures for chilled goods, book stock on the WMS and resolve discrepancies with purchasing. I drive counterbalance and reach trucks and trained the early shift when we switched to new scanners.

I would like to grow into a team leader role in a larger food warehouse. Rotating shifts are fine.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Kowalski

Application for the position of Warehouse operative

Dear Sir or Madam,

After six years as a cycle courier I am looking for a permanent job with regular shifts. I know parcels and delivery notes – just from the other end of the chain. Now I want the other end.

I am fit, quick and accurate: I delivered up to 80 items a day using a scanner and app. I passed my forklift course this summer and would like to build experience with you.

I can work early and late shifts and can start immediately.

Yours faithfully,

Ryan Patel

Good to know

Your application in three steps
  1. Add your own photo – or none

The example uses an illustrated placeholder. Replace it under “Choose photo” in the editor, or remove it: in the UK, US and many other countries a CV photo is not expected.

  2. Replace the details

Name, contact, jobs, skills: everything is filled in and can be overwritten field by field.

  3. Save as PDF

The PDF is created in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, no account needed.

What employers look for

Warehouses want people who are accurate, quick and safe, ideally with forklift experience and some time on a warehouse management system. Say which areas you have worked in and what responsibility you have taken on.

  • Experience in goods-in, picking, packing or dispatch

  • Forklift licence (counterbalance, reach, VNA)

  • Scanners and warehouse management systems

  • Accuracy and safe working

  • Flexibility for shifts

Tips for your application

Do

  • Name truck types and systems.
  • Give volumes: trucks, pallets, picks per hour.
  • State your shift availability.

Don’t

  • Claim a forklift licence you do not hold.
  • Write only “general warehouse duties”.
  • Ignore health limits for heavy lifting.
Typical interview questions

Prepare a short, honest example from your own work for each one.

  1. What do you do when a delivery does not match the paperwork?
  2. Which trucks have you driven?
  3. How do you avoid picking errors?
  4. Which shifts can you work?

Salary expectations

If the advert asks for your salary expectations, give an annual gross figure or a range you have researched – through pay scales, salary surveys from public sources or people who do the job. If it does not ask, leave pay out of the letter; it will come up in the interview.

Frequently asked questions
Is a cover letter needed for warehouse jobs?

Many agencies only ask for a CV, but a short letter with your licences and shift availability can move you up the list.

Should I put a photo on my CV?

It depends on the country. In the UK, Ireland and the US a photo is usually left out to avoid bias, and many employers prefer CVs without one. In Germany and some other countries it is common but optional. If you use one: recent, friendly, plain background, dressed as you would be on a good day at work.

Can I copy the example letters?

Yes, they are free to use. But recruiters read a lot of letters – one with your own examples, numbers and a real reason for choosing this employer will always do better. Use the examples as scaffolding and write the sentences yourself.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The CV and the letter are created in your browser. Nothing is stored unless you switch on “Save the draft” in the editor – and then only on your device.
