Remove location and EXIF data from photos

See what your photos give away – and remove the location and other metadata before you share them.

How can I check that nothing is uploaded?

Your files are processed in this browser tab. This page has no function that sends files to a server, and its security rules (Content Security Policy) forbid connections to other servers.

Check it yourself: load this page, then switch on flight mode or disconnect Wi-Fi and run the tool. It still works – because everything happens on your device.

Good to know

How it works – step by step
  1. Choose photos

Pick one or many photos. You’ll see right away whether they contain a location, camera data, serial numbers or other info.

  2. Check

Tap a photo to see the details – the location as coordinates, without loading a map. The capture date can be kept if you like.

  3. Clean and share

Tap “Remove data” and share the cleaned photos right away – the image quality stays exactly the same.

Why FaLe?
  • Lossless

JPG, PNG and WebP are not re-encoded. Only the extra data goes, the image data stays identical byte for byte – FaLe checks this for every file.

  • Thorough

Removes EXIF with GPS, camera and serial numbers, XMP, IPTC, comments, embedded thumbnails and data some phones append after the image.

  • See what’s inside

Before deleting, FaLe shows what each photo reveals about you – no map, no request to the internet.

  • Stays upright

The orientation is kept as the only detail when the photo needs it to be shown correctly. It reveals nothing about you.

Frequently asked questions
Why should I remove the location from photos?

Many phones store the GPS position in the picture. If you share the photo as a file, for example by e-mail, in forums or on classifieds sites, anyone can see where it was taken – your home, for example.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are read and cleaned in your browser. No map is loaded either; the location is only shown as numbers.

Does the image quality get worse?

No. For JPG, PNG and WebP only the extra data is removed, the image data stays unchanged. HEIC and AVIF photos can’t be edited like this in the browser – they are saved again as JPG at very high quality, and we say so.

What stays in the photo?

The colour profile, so colours stay right, and the rotation if the photo needs it. Optionally the capture date. Everything else is removed.

Don’t messengers and social networks remove this data anyway?

Some do, but not all and not always – for example when you send a photo as a document or by e-mail. With FaLe you’re on the safe side and see what’s inside beforehand.

Can I clean many photos at once?

Yes, without a limit. At the end, share them together or download them as a ZIP.
