Application for the position of Babysitter

Dear Ms Morgan,

your note on the board at the community centre caught my eye, and I would love to look after your two children. I am 16 and this spring I completed a babysitting course that included paediatric first aid.

For the past year I have regularly looked after our neighbours’ twins, who are four. Stories, tea, teeth, and then waiting until both are asleep – I know the routine well. I am free until 10 pm on weekdays and later at weekends.

Mrs Kaur, our neighbour, is happy to give you a reference.

Yours sincerely,

Ellie Watson

Application for the position of After-school babysitter

Dear Mr Okafor,

the hours between school pick-up and the end of the working day are often the hardest for parents – my sister tells me so every week. I am a second-year education student and could collect your son from school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and stay until six.

I have been a youth group leader for five years. Homework, football in the park and cooking something simple together are things I enjoy and do reliably. I already hold an enhanced background check for my volunteering.

Yours sincerely,

Sam Patel

Good to know

Your application in three steps
  1. Add your own photo – or none

The example uses an illustrated placeholder. Replace it under “Choose photo” in the editor, or remove it: in the UK, US and many other countries a CV photo is not expected.

  2. Replace the details

Name, contact, jobs, skills: everything is filled in and can be overwritten field by field.

  3. Save as PDF

The PDF is created in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, no account needed.

What employers look for

Parents want to know one thing above all: can they trust you? Say which ages you have looked after, whether you have done a babysitting or paediatric first aid course, and when you are free. A reference from another family helps a lot.

  • Experience with children of a similar age

  • Paediatric first aid or babysitting course

  • Reliability, including late evenings

  • References

  • Living nearby

Tips for your application

Do

  • Say which ages you have looked after.
  • Mention courses and references.
  • Give exact days and times.

Don’t

  • Leave it unclear how late you can stay.
  • Plan to bring friends along.
  • Treat phone use as a given.
Typical interview questions

Prepare a short, honest example from your own work for each one.

  1. What do you do if a child will not go to sleep?
  2. What would you do in an emergency?
  3. How late can you stay?
  4. Who can give you a reference?

Salary expectations

If the advert asks for your salary expectations, give an annual gross figure or a range you have researched – through pay scales, salary surveys from public sources or people who do the job. If it does not ask, leave pay out of the letter; it will come up in the interview.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a babysitting course?

It is not required, but a babysitting or paediatric first aid course reassures parents – and you.

Should I put a photo on my CV?

It depends on the country. In the UK, Ireland and the US a photo is usually left out to avoid bias, and many employers prefer CVs without one. In Germany and some other countries it is common but optional. If you use one: recent, friendly, plain background, dressed as you would be on a good day at work.

Can I copy the example letters?

Yes, they are free to use. But recruiters read a lot of letters – one with your own examples, numbers and a real reason for choosing this employer will always do better. Use the examples as scaffolding and write the sentences yourself.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. The CV and the letter are created in your browser. Nothing is stored unless you switch on “Save the draft” in the editor – and then only on your device.
