Application for the position of Customer service advisor (remote)
Dear Ms Evans,
After eight years waiting tables in busy restaurants, I know the moment when a customer’s patience runs out – and how to bring the conversation back. I would like to use that skill on the phone with your customers.
I handled table bookings, complaints and the end-of-day cash-up, and I trained new staff on our till system. I type quickly and accurately, and I have completed an online course on telephone customer service to prepare for this move.
I have a quiet home office with a fibre connection and can work early and late shifts, including Saturdays. I would be glad to take part in a phone interview.
Yours sincerely,
Megan Lewis

Application for the position of Second-line support advisor
Dear Sir or Madam,
Over the past four years I have handled more than 30,000 customer contacts, mainly about broadband faults and bills. I would now like to work on the cases that cannot be solved in the first call.
My satisfaction scores have been above the team average for two years, and I train new starters on our systems. I walk customers through router settings step by step and know when to book an engineer. Most faults are simpler than they sound. I write case notes so that nobody has to ask the customer the same question twice.
I am happy to work shifts and weekends and can start with four weeks’ notice.
Yours faithfully,
Owen Price

Your application in three steps
Add your own photo – or none
The example uses an illustrated placeholder. Replace it under “Choose photo” in the editor, or remove it: in the UK, US and many other countries a CV photo is not expected.
Replace the details
Name, contact, jobs, skills: everything is filled in and can be overwritten field by field.

What employers look for
Contact centres look for people who stay friendly under pressure, explain things clearly and work quickly across several systems. Many hire career changers and train them; expect a phone screening or a short role play.
Calm, friendly manner with frustrated customers
Clear spoken and written English
Quick, accurate work on a PC with several systems open
Flexibility for shifts or weekends
A quiet space and reliable internet for remote roles
Tips for your application
Do
- Give one example of turning an unhappy customer around.
- Mention metrics if you have them.
- State your availability and home set-up for remote roles.
Don’t
- Describe customers as annoying.
- Send an application with typos.
- Miss the screening call – keep your phone on.
Typical interview questions
Prepare a short, honest example from your own work for each one.
- A customer is shouting at you. What do you do?
- How would you explain a price rise to an elderly customer?
- How do you stay focused after many calls in a row?
- Which shifts can you work?
Salary expectations
If the advert asks for your salary expectations, give an annual gross figure or a range you have researched – through pay scales, salary surveys from public sources or people who do the job. If it does not ask, leave pay out of the letter; it will come up in the interview.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need experience for a customer service job?
Not always. Many employers train new advisors. Show examples from other jobs where you dealt with people, solved problems and kept calm.
Should I put a photo on my CV?
It depends on the country. In the UK, Ireland and the US a photo is usually left out to avoid bias, and many employers prefer CVs without one. In Germany and some other countries it is common but optional. If you use one: recent, friendly, plain background, dressed as you would be on a good day at work.
Can I copy the example letters?
Yes, they are free to use. But recruiters read a lot of letters – one with your own examples, numbers and a real reason for choosing this employer will always do better. Use the examples as scaffolding and write the sentences yourself.
Is my data stored anywhere?
No. The CV and the letter are created in your browser. Nothing is stored unless you switch on “Save the draft” in the editor – and then only on your device.
